20 minutes from Amsterdam, on the borders of the IJsselmeer,
you find the splendid former isle of Marken. Connected with
the mainland in 1957, the atmosphere of old has never ceased
to reign in the pretty island. The preserved village is UNESCO
nominated for its old harbour, narrow streets, small bridges
and colourful costumes.
The IJsselmeer waters with the lighthouse
and the clustered wooden houses ahead of you, give you that
feeling of being away from it all ! Hotel Hof van Marken is
an excellent starting point for excursions to nearby rural
villages like Durgerdam, Broek in Waterland, Zuiderwoude, Volendam
